Fifty Years and Still Plugging Away: Sequim Electronics Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

As I stand here today, looking out across our store, it's hard to believe that this July marks a monumental milestone: 50 years since our doors first opened. Fifty years of connecting Sequim to the world of electronics, half a century of solving problems, building projects, and adapting to a technology landscape that has changed more times than I can count. It's a journey that fills me with immense pride and a deep sense of gratitude.

Our story began way back in July of 1975. Sequim was a different place then, a town steadily growing and transitioning, moving beyond its purely agricultural roots. And right there, in Creamery Square downtown, a new kind of store emerged. Back then, RadioShack was a haven for the curious, a vital resource for hobbyists and budding engineers. Need a specific resistor? A unique capacitor for a circuit you were building? We were the place to find it. We were where you could grab the latest audio gear or even start to explore the nascent world of personal computing. It was a time of hands-on technical exploration, and our store was at the very heart of it for this community.

The store's journey continued, and in 1989, Dave Lyle took the helm. Dave steered the ship through significant shifts, including our move in 1993 to our current, more spacious location on W. Washington Street. Through the decades, as the national RadioShack brand navigated its own turbulent waters, our local, independent spirit remained our unwavering constant. We weren't just a chain link; we were, and are, a local business, dedicated to providing consistent, accessible expertise.

When my partner and I acquired Sequim Electronics from Dave in 2019, we inherited more than just an inventory; we inherited a legacy. A legacy of solving problems, of finding that obscure cable, of explaining how to make a new component talk to an old one. Today, that means helping you keep your complex array of devices powered, connected, and compatible – whether it’s finding the right charger for an emergency radio, integrating new home theater components with existing systems, or ensuring your vintage monitor can still serve your modern PC. This enduring dedication, which has brought us to the Sequim Electronics 50th Anniversary, ensures our core mission hasn't changed: we're here to bridge the gaps in your technical life..
